NLB launches enhanced NLB Mobile app and new Dig­i­tal Busi­ness Library, now with more to read on-​the-​go.

Good news, life­long learn­ers! The National Library Board (NLB) has launched an improved ver­sion of the NLB Mobile app and a new Dig­i­tal Busi­ness Library to encour­age more peo­ple, par­tic­u­larly adults, to read and learn, any­time and any­where. These two new ser­vices offer a larger selec­tion of up-​to-​date eRe­sources that cater to dif­fer­ent read­ing needs, which is eas­ily acces­si­ble through mobile devices.

The NLB Mobile app pro­vides con­ve­nient access to library con­tent, infor­ma­tion, ser­vices and trans­ac­tions, and is free on iOS and Android mobile devices. An enhanced ver­sion which was recently launched has new fea­tures such as improved search func­tions for eBooks and access to eMagazines and eNews­pa­pers. There are now over 3,600 eMagazines and 3,500 eNews­pa­pers from more than 100 coun­tries. The enhances eBook brows­ing allows you to browse and search for eBooks from over 100 sub­ject cat­e­gories such as health, finance and more. The total eBook col­lec­tion avail­able for read­ing and down­load­ing is about 300,000.

Come Novem­ber, NLB shared there will be a vir­tual library card to carry out trans­ac­tions at the library, from scan­ning to retriev­ing items from the reser­va­tion locker to mak­ing trans­ac­tions at the eKiosk with­out hav­ing to bring a phys­i­cal card.

The Dig­i­tal Busi­ness Library fea­tures eBook col­lec­tions that are curated accord­ing to trend­ing top­ics rel­e­vant in the dig­i­tal age. Acces­si­ble via the Over­drive mobile app and web­site, the Dig­i­tal Busi­ness Library is a one-​stop por­tal for peo­ple look­ing for resources in four areas – “Boost Your Career”, “Skills to Get You Ahead”, “Build a Bet­ter Busi­ness” and “Entre­pre­neurs & Investors”. The col­lec­tion com­prises of over 22,000 eBook and audio­book titles that cover top­ics includ­ing arti­fi­cial intel­li­gence, IT and cod­ing, dig­i­tal econ­omy, and how to become a bet­ter manager.

In con­junc­tion with the launch of the enhanced NLB Mobile app, the sec­ond edi­tion of the library-​themed train is run­ning on the Down­town and North-​East lines from now to 26 Novem­ber 26, 2017. The trains will be dressed up to fea­ture titles from dif­fer­ent gen­res such as travel, self-​enrichment, health, tech­nol­ogy, and more. This ini­tia­tive is a col­lab­o­ra­tion between NLB, the Land Trans­port Author­ity and SBS Transit.

Com­muters will enjoy unlim­ited access and down­loads for a total of 50 eBook, audio­book, eMagazine, and eNews­pa­per titles for three months till Jan­u­ary 12, 2018. The mate­ri­als cover var­i­ous gen­res includ­ing travel, self-​enrichment, health, tech­nol­ogy, Skills­Fu­ture, thriller and Sin­ga­pore lit­er­a­ture. This is an increase from the fea­tured six eBook titles last year on the library-​themed train.

These two new services offer a larger selection of up-to-date eResources that cater to different reading needs, which is easily accessible through mobile devices.

The NLB Mobile app provides convenient access to library content, information, services and transactions, and is free on iOS and Android mobile devices. An enhanced version which was recently launched has new features such as improved search functions for eBooks and access to eMagazines and eNewspapers. There are now over 3,600 eMagazines and 3,500 eNewspapers from more than 100 countries. The Digital Business Library features eBook collections that are curated according to trending topics relevant in the digital age. Accessible via the Overdrive mobile app and website, the Digital Business Library is a one-stop portal for people looking for resources in four areas – “Boost Your Career”, “Skills to Get You Ahead”, “Build a Better Business” and “Entrepreneurs & Investors”. The collection comprises of over 22,000 eBook and audiobook titles that cover topics including artificial intelligence, IT and coding, digital economy, and how to become a better manager.

In conjunction with the launch of the enhanced NLB Mobile app, the second edition of the library-themed train is running on the Downtown and North-East lines from now to 26 November 26, 2017. The trains will be dressed up to feature titles from different genres such as travel, self-enrichment, health, technology, and more. This initiative is a collaboration between NLB, the Land Transport Authority and SBS Transit.

Commuters will enjoy unlimited access and downloads for a total of 50 eBook, audiobook, eMagazine, and eNewspaper titles for three months till January 12, 2018. The materials cover various genres including travel, self-enrichment, health, technology, SkillsFuture, thriller and Singapore literature.
