The Council for Third Age to launch the third edition of the National Silver Academy virtual roadshow.

The Council for Third Age (C3A) will launch its third edition of the National Silver Academy (NSA) virtual roadshow to promote lifelong learning and volunteerism among those aged 50 and above. The upcoming event will be held from September 30 to October 15, 2021.

Themed ‘Many Things to Learn, Many Ways to Grow’, visitors can choose from over 300 courses offered by more than 60 participating partners including education institutions and community-based organisations to equip them with new knowledge and enable upskilling. These learning opportunities include short courses, bite-sized courses, online videos and the newly-introduced packaged course which is a series of curated courses covering senior-centric topics such as health and wellness, caregiving and technology, offered at discounted prices.

The virtual roadshow will also boast a line-up of daily online programmes, videos and talks based on three key themes that are popular with seniors, namely ‘Adopt Digital Technology’, ‘Make Healthy Choices’ and ‘Pursue Your Hobbies’. In conjunction with the International Day of Older Persons on October 1, 2021, C3A, in collaboration with VintageRadio.SG, will conduct a live talk via Facebook to discuss the importance of learning in enabling positive ageing. The talk will feature celebrity DJs Brian Richmond and Rahimah Rahim who will share their personal learning experiences and how they stay engaged through their hobbies. There will also be another talk on how to stay safe online. Topics such as cybersecurity, common types of online scams and tips to keep personal and financial information safe from cyber criminals will be discussed.

End of this year, C3A will introduce an online platform bundled with nostalgia-based content. Named ‘My Good Oh! Days’, seniors can learn through content such as music, stories, games and virtual tours relating to nostalgia. Beyond personal development, nostalgia is found to have positive effects on ageing such as improving mental wellness and fostering social connectedness.
