Centre For Seniors offers a job-matching platform that is more than just silver, called Platinum.

Looking for a part-time job and don’t know where to go? The non-profit, voluntary welfare organisation, Centre For Seniors (CFS) has started “the first jobs portal created to support matured workers in Singapore” and as a service to the community. Called Platinum, the job-matching platform was created by a group of students from Singapore Polytechnic as part of their final-year project back in 2017.

Shared Lim Sia Hoe, executive director for CFS, “The portal is designed to be an efficient senior-friendly platform so that seniors can overcome their fears of using mobile devices (technology), which may hinder them for applying for jobs. The portal’s user-friendly interface is easy to navigate, allowing seniors to easily apply for jobs online.”

The website at www.silverjobs.sg is not only targeted at seniors but also at age-friendly companies to post their jobs. Registration for both seniors and employers is free. Seniors will need to type their job type by keywords or category; whether full-time, part-time or freelance; and their preferred location before a list of potential jobs come up. According to CFS, close to 500 seniors and 40 companies have registered on the site. Some of the companies who have posted jobs include Khoo Teck Puat Hospital/Yishun Community Hospital; Neovia Logistics Services, Singapore Branch; Presto Drycleaners; Quest Global Services; Smart Energy; Soup Restaurant Singapore; The National University Of Singapore Society; UE Park Avenue International; and Vanguard Healthcare.

The site also shows the latest job postings which currently includes elder carer, station pump attendant, credit control executive, staff nurse, telesales, cafe assistant, etc. Besides jobs, Platinum also lists the latest courses being offered by CFS where seniors can enroll in such as Financial Management Literacy for Retirement Planning, Rethink 50: Be Active and Relevant, and Entrepreneurship: Build Your Business Model and Deliver a Winning Pitch.

To further support seniors, CFS holds two job briefings each month for job seekers. The schedule can be found on www.silverjobs.sg. During the sessions, it shares the jobs available, how to do a profile after registering on its site and identifying appropriate pre-training for some job roles such as in administration and healthcare.

Added Sia Hoe, “We don’t profess to be a job agency, but just a humble service to help seniors find meaningful jobs so they continue being active. Hopefully, we can create a pipeline of talented seniors as the alternate workforce for the Singapore labour market.”
